Things to do in Kihei

Kihei is Maui's south-shore base for travellers who want the sun without the Wailea room rates: condos rather than resorts, a run of Kamaole Beach Parks I, II and III, and quick access to some of the calmest water on the island.

Snorkel boats out of nearby Maalaea harbour, about 15 to 20 minutes away, tend to load early, before the afternoon wind picks up over the channel. Condo rates here often run several hundred dollars a night less than a comparable room in Wailea, though taxes of roughly 18% on lodging and daily resort or amenity fees can still apply.

Conditions vary cove to cove, not every beach along this stretch is equally sheltered, so check the day's wind and surf before picking a spot.
