Things to do at Molokini Crater
Molokini is a crescent-shaped, uninhabited volcanic crater about 4 km off Maui's south coast, inside a state marine reserve. Nobody sets foot on it: every visit means swimming or snorkelling straight from the boat that moors in the crescent's calm inner bay, then usually a second stop, often Turtle Town.
Most trips run 4 to 6 hours and cost roughly USD 100 to 180 per adult, not including the state's mandatory landing fee added by most operators. Morning departures see clearer water than afternoon ones, because the trade winds build through the day.
Boats leave from Maalaea, Kihei or Lahaina, and seasickness is the most common complaint on the crossing.
